30-Day Challenge: Testing the Habits of Billionaires

How about this: you know these habits on how to become a billionaire by adopting certain behaviors, right? So, I've decided to test myself today and see whether this is the genuine deal. For one month, I'm going to attempt to follow the life. I'm going to have to do my best to get there. My challenge officially begins in the wee hours of the morning today. The kind of early morning that starts at five. They say that a morning like this gives you a head start on the day, but as a developers, accustomed to late-night coding sessions and hacking away at lines of code, I don't think this bird is interested in collecting worms.


For 30 days, I Pretended that I was a Billionaire

The time has come, although it is not yet, for my cup of coffee in the morning

Then, we'll do some light workout. Don't make me work too hard or I could pass out before the actual test starts. Simple bodyweight exercises such as push-ups, sit-ups, and squats will do the trick. I'm really surprised by how much better I feel right now. It's as though my heart is beating quicker now and I've finally woken up. I think I'll start my day off with a shower and a big breakfast.

Breakfast with scrambled eggs and coffee has never been better

It's 5:30 in the morning, and I need to go to work. I've got over two hours till I have to report to work, which is more than enough time to get whatever it is I wanted to get done done. I'm going to go ahead and check my inbox now. As well as that, there's some tidying up and dishwashing to do. Well, it's 7:45 now, and time to start getting ready. I had no idea that a spotless home would make me feel so good about myself.

Being an early riser is probably not a terrible thing

I've never had a better morning disposition, and I have faith that today will be a fruitful one in the office. I've accomplished a lot by now, but it appears like my early energy is waning. At best, I'm feeling sleepy. Thank goodness it's noon; I need to have a cup of coffee and eat something to give me a boost.

The thought of a chocolate bar is appealing

Because there are no more junk foods I should avoid in this category, I'll choose a healthy option instead. It's 5:30 now, and I'm free from the office for the day. Lunch didn't help much, unfortunately. I believe that going to bed late the night before is to blame for my current state of exhaustion. Oh well, my new schedule says I need to go to sleep much earlier today, so that shouldn't be an issue anymore.

When I got home from work, I usually just ate some junk food and vegged out in front of the TV for a few hours or mindlessly surfed the web on my laptop. I can scarcely get the energy to write up a list of tomorrow's tasks, but I must.

That's the way things usually go

As I wasn't as efficient as I had anticipated, I still have some work to do, but it will have to wait until tomorrow. Working from home is not allowed. Well, then. Assemble for dinner first. I'll have to eat quietly while contemplating something wholesome and light. There's a strict ban on televisions. I can't think of anything since there are no ideas in my brain. I'm exhausted and ready for bed. Now I can relax with a bath, a good book, and an early bedtime.

Two weeks have passed since I first began my challenge

I thought now would be a good time to report on how things are doing so far. So, I've kept the same wake-up time of 5 AM, and it's worked out well for me. I admit that at initially I was terrible at managing my time and that I sometimes overslept. It was challenging since I didn't have a plan for the two hours after my morning routine of working out, bathing, and eating breakfast. But, I finally figured out the solution.

The tasks I didn't have time to do the previous day get finished today

My energy levels are highest first thing in the morning, therefore that's the only time of day I can get anything significant done. But, I still feel like most of my energy has been drained by midday, and it seems to be growing worse. Due to my recent forgetfulness and inattention, my coworkers often need to repeat themselves so that I can understand them.

The list of things that need to be done continues growing

I'm starting to worry that the two hours I have to myself first thing in the morning won't be nearly enough. So, I'm not quite through with my experiment yet, so I'll keep on with it. The evenings, however, have gotten considerably more manageable. I now get home about 7:00 PM, have supper, and quickly organise my schedule for the next day. I've found it useful to merely write down the most critical details.

My life is lot more organized now that I have my priorities clear

Whenever I finish an item on my To Do List, it's the highlight of my day. When I've laid out my schedule for the next day, I get in the shower for a few minutes to chill down. In response to a cold shower, I like to hide out under the covers. While still reeling from the aftereffects of my shower, I curl up with a good book in bed. In any case, it's not just any old book. Since I believe that success requires constant education, I only read fiction on rare occasions.

In two weeks, I will provide you an update

To be honest, I'm glad this month-long endeavor is over. It's been becoming progressively harder to get out of bed, so I'm looking forward to catching up on some shut-eye tonight. Staying away from junk food has helped me lose weight, and I also feel better in other ways. Apparently, I will not be returning to my previous lifestyle of avoiding fatty foods. I get in some exercise, shower, have breakfast, and then go back to work.

Even though nothing has changed, I keep thinking that I must be doing something wrong

Maybe I should have waited until the afternoon to begin my job from home. The peak of my energy has not yet passed, so I waste no time. Yet, I have recently become a total failure around lunchtime. Usually, if I can help it, I get the most of my work done before lunch, since after 1 PM, it's as if someone flips a switch and shuts off my ability to think clearly. I can't even rely on coffee to perk me up. The change in my bedtime routine must be to blame.

That's why I went with the first choice for the time being

When I get home from work in the evening, I collapse into bed. Not even marking off completed tasks brightens my day. I've had to force myself to put pen to paper. The following two items on the to-do list, but there keeps seeming to be more. Tonight, it's of no use. I have finished my nighttime routine and am going to bed, happy in the knowledge that I will sleep in till 7 a.m. tomorrow.

Have a nice day. Really, what more can I say?

My experiment did not turn out the way I had hoped. My morning productivity was through the roof, but unfortunately it wore off by lunch. At that point, we were lucky to get 50% efficiency for the remainder of the day. It makes sense that I didn't experience some of the perks; I'm just not an early riser. For instance, I made the error of not making time for my personal recreation, which is essential if you don't want to burn out.

But, there were also many enjoyable aspects

As I've already said, I was able to get a lot done in the mornings, and I feel like I could be totally chill if I had an hour to snooze after lunch. Reading a book before going to sleep has benefits that extend throughout the day. It's amazing how much I've learned, and how much of it has remained with me. As a whole, I learned a lot from it. I doubt I can keep it up forever, but I will definitely incorporate some of the practices into my regular life going forward. I have faith that they will alter my life for the better.
